Vogue RussiaAre you someone that thinks the only way to achieve younger looking facial features is to go under the knife? Think again.

After around 30 years of age women are becoming big fans of fillers and other cosmetic injections to make themselves look and feel younger.

However they should see the bigger picture and look at what is truly making them feel old. It could very well be their teeth.

“Over the years, our teeth wear out, your gums precipitated”, says New York Dentist, Michael Apa. If want to look younger do not rush to the plastic surgeon: start with paying a visit to your dentist.

Forget fillers and cosmetic surgery, start fighting for eternal youth at your dentist.

Cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Apa has worked with Hollywood stars and top models alike. He talks to City Times about creating the perfect set of pearly whites

After graduating from the New York University of Dentistry, Dr. Michael Apa decided to focus on the aesthetics of the job – pioneering a new form of cosmetic dentistry with his partner Dr. Larry Rosenthal.

The two created a new, non-invasive form of cosmetic surgery by creating veneers that cater to each of the patient’s individual needs.

So what does he specifically take into account?

“The structure, the plains of the face and the angle of the jaw,” replies Dr. Apa. He adds that growth and development patterns control teeth formation, which in turn controls the lower central third of the face.

Harper's Bazaar Mens Arabia - November 2010How did you get to the top: I take an artistic approach. I have a gift to visualise detail and see balance. That as well as good hands. I look at every patient with fresh eyes and dig deep to create something special.

What’s been your career high: The day I signed the contract to buy-out my New York office. I had gone to dental school with the goal of working for Larry Rosenthal who was one of the first to do cosmetic dentistry. I graduated, was hired and within a relatively short time period signed a contract to buy the practice in the years to come. At this point we remain full partners. In my field, it doesn’t get any bigger than that.

What’s been your career low: I came out of dental school a star and went directly into the biggest office in New York as low man on the totem pole. I was hanging my coat in the hallway with the dental assistants. I wouldn’t change anything though, it fuelled a burning fire inside of me to be the best.

What is your dream boy’s toy: My first Ferrari. One day I woke up, stopped being practical, called my dealer and within 24 hours I had ordered a titanium silver Ferrari 430 with the F1 gear shift. I still get excited every time I see the car. It reminds me of my childhood when I used to draw Ferraris and had pictures of a 308 GTO on my wall. When I was 18, my father took me for a test drive, looking back it was a motivational factor as we were definitely not Ferrari shopping. Dreams can be accomplished.

Like Dr. Michael Apa’s clients, who come from all over the world, to realise their dream of putting their best smile forward

Dr. Michael Apa is an internationally known aesthetic dentist and a partner in the Rosenthal-Apa Group, a private aesthetic dentistry practice in New York City. With modern technology and the use of porcelain veneers, combined by his own artistic flair, he customises teeth for each client to perfection, which, in turn, transforms their smiles.

As he shapes the teeth, he also brings balance or symmetry to the facial features – and all of these without the use of invasive surgery. This process is known as Facial Aesthetic Design or FAD, a new approach to aesthetic dentistry that he is pioneering.

“I see big business people dressed in perfect suits, ties have a nice knot on it, cufflinks, ring, nice watch, shoes polished… and terrible teeth. I just don’t understand how they can put all these emphasis on everything else but the one thing that people see first – their teeth. The state of your teeth indicates your health, of oral hygiene, and shows people how you take care of yourself, ” Dr. Apa explains.
