How did you get to the top: I take an artistic approach. I have a gift to visualise detail and see balance. That as well as good hands. I look at every patient with fresh eyes and dig deep to create something special.
What’s been your career high: The day I signed the contract to buy-out my New York office. I had gone to dental school with the goal of working for Larry Rosenthal who was one of the first to do cosmetic dentistry. I graduated, was hired and within a relatively short time period signed a contract to buy the practice in the years to come. At this point we remain full partners. In my field, it doesn’t get any bigger than that.
What’s been your career low: I came out of dental school a star and went directly into the biggest office in New York as low man on the totem pole. I was hanging my coat in the hallway with the dental assistants. I wouldn’t change anything though, it fuelled a burning fire inside of me to be the best.
What is your dream boy’s toy: My first Ferrari. One day I woke up, stopped being practical, called my dealer and within 24 hours I had ordered a titanium silver Ferrari 430 with the F1 gear shift. I still get excited every time I see the car. It reminds me of my childhood when I used to draw Ferraris and had pictures of a 308 GTO on my wall. When I was 18, my father took me for a test drive, looking back it was a motivational factor as we were definitely not Ferrari shopping. Dreams can be accomplished.
How important is personal style at work: I work in the beauty business, if people don’t perceive me as stylish I don’t know if they’d put trust in me. I wear a suit every day by Brioni, Kiton or Borelli – slim fit, no pleat, three button, thin lapel, great fabric.
How do you dress off duty: I love Brunello Cucinelli, it is the most thoughtful, classy designer I see for men. Sometimes I like to get a little funky so I’ll check out Dolce & Gabbana for a wow factor outfit. I like a nice watch and switch between A Lange & Söhne, IWC and Patek Phillipe. I wear a charm around my neck that never comes off (it protects me), and JM Weston on my feet.
What do you like women to wear: I have two dream outfits for women. One is nothing and the other is an elegant backless dress with a nice high heel.
Where can you be found: Rather than nightclubs I prefer drinks at Zuma, Bahri Bar or Rooftop at Royal Mirage. Dubai has so many great restaurants, I love the new Twenty10 by Gary Rhodes, Pierchic and Nobu. By day, I like the galleries in DIFC, especially Opera, and I bought an incredible piece at Cuadro recently.
Is greed good: Greed makes the world go round, it makes people hungry and constantly strive for more. In the process innovation and growth are created. Greed is an ugly word but the concept is good. Just know its limits.
